Wi-Fi to Go: The Hot Spot in a Box - New York Times
So they made every geek’s dream come true: A wifi hotspot that just plugs in wherever there’s power. Though where does that internet come from, one might wonder:
Each requires the insertion of a PC laptop card provided by a cellular carrier like Verizon, Sprint or Cingular. The card provides the Internet connection, courtesy of those companies’ 3G (”third generation”) high-speed cellular data networks.
Okay, so why not plug that card directly into your laptop?
Conclusion: This product is only for people that have a crappy iBook or no (free?) pcmcia slot for some other reason.
